Welcome!
I started this site in 1996 as a simple way to distribute my personal photos, notes, etc.
I had no idea then that I was a pioneer "blogger!

And so ends my (second) sabbatical. Today I started working at Apple, Inc. as an Engineering Project Manager. It all happened very quickly (exactly two weeks from submitting my resume). But having been a huge Apple advocate since my first MacPlus in 1986, and 'switching' scores of family and friends, I am very excited about the opportunity to contribute directly to the company's success from the inside. Just not sure if I'll have time to keep up this blog :-)

No more dino-fuel for me!
After researching the alternative fuel vehicle options currently available, I decided to go Bio. Biodiesel that is. I purchased a 2004 Volkswagen Golf GLS TDI. The TDI (Turbo Direct Injected) is a diesel engine, and this one has only run on biodiesel (which here in California is made from Soybeans). It's a 5-speed manual, with lots of low-end torque, and has ABS, moonroof, premium sound, lots of airbags and power everything - all typical of a modern German auto. Here is review of the car.Two days later, this article appeared in The San Francisco Chronicle.

Took Mom & Dad to the SAP Open tennis tournament in San Jose (this is the second-oldest tournament in the United States) to see two quarter final matches - both which turned out to be upsets. Ivo Karlovic took out Mardy Fish 7-6(2), 6-4, and Ben Becker (no relation to Boris) beat up on Marat Safin 6-4, 6-3. Check out my photo with Andy Roddick (ok, a little camera trickery was used...).

Cisco Systems, Inc. announces the acquisition of Five Across. I'm pleased that all the effort I put into Five Across's products will get some new backing and continue.

Back to the cabin for a bit. It hasn't snowed since the last time I was up. It was almost spring-like weather. Which I loved, but is leading to much concern about the winter economy up here, and the water reserves for the year. June and Lynne came up on the weekend and we explored a new hike - Martis Peak - with sweeping views of Lake Tahoe and surrounding area. Ended up stashing the snowshoes near the trailhead since they were not even needed on the packed snow. Pics.

Visited my old friends David and Jonathan who have a beautiful house in the Russian River Valley. We went wine tasting at Dutton, Martin Ray, Joseph Swan, Russian Hill, Martinelli, and Sunce (map), then to dinner at a great veggie place in downtown Sebastapol, followed by an evening at the Santa Rosa Symphony. We capped it off with some star gazing and a nice Syrah port purchased earlier in the day.

It's Soy Happy Day! Try going vegan for a day?

Headed up to the cabin for the first time this season. Went for a great snowshoe up to the saddle at Castle Peak on a beautiful sunny Wednesday. Thursday brought rain in the morning then (much needed) snow - about 7 inches! The sun was back out Friday and Saturday - just a beautiful scene. Pics
